A walker, also called a lower limb orthosis, is a walking support tool that is used by elderly people with limited mobility, patients with certain trauma, hemiplegia, and disabled people to help them walk or do physical exercises on their limbs. People can walk slowly and easily while holding on to it.
Main purpose: The main method of treating lower limb movement disorders is generally to passively flex the patient's hip and knee joints with the help of external force from family members, which consumes a lot of manpower and cannot be persisted. Once the external force is relieved, the limbs will be in an external rotation position, and the patient cannot maintain a functional position for a long time. This can be done with the help of a walker.
Main functions (1) Maintaining balance: Such as the elderly, non-central disorders such as weakness of the lower limbs, poor extension of the lower limbs due to spasticity, and inability to move the center of gravity, etc., but it has little effect on the balance disorders of elderly patients with stroke and multiple cerebral infarction. (2) Weight support: After hemiplegia or paraplegia, when the patient's muscle strength is weakened or the lower limbs are weak and unable to support the weight or cannot bear weight due to joint pain, the walker can play a substitute role. (3) Enhance muscle strength: Frequent use of canes and axillary sticks can enhance muscle strength for the extensor muscles of the upper limbs because they need to support the body.
